The 2023 Australian Precision Agriculture Symposium is an annual event hosted by the Society of Precision Agriculture Australia (SPAA) in collaboration with the University of Sydney.
This year's event will be held in Perth, WA, on the back of the state's two bumper harvests, presenting a tangible opportunity for inter-state knowledge sharing.
The PA Symposium has always sought to bring together presentations on a wide range of issues from the spectrum of agricultural industries implementing PA. The audience is a mix of growers, researchers, advisors, commercial suppliers, research funding body personnel, and tertiary students. The focus is mainly on the use of PA in broadacre cropping; however, the event aims to share knowledge and experiences across farming enterprises to stimulate development and uptake of PA in Australia.
The Program this year will include talks on robotics, variable-rate application of inputs, novel weed management, sensing for soil variability, on-farm experimentation, data-driven decision tools, animal welfare and production management, earth observation system developments, and more. The symposium is supported by a commercial trade exhibition to allow all participants to get first-hand information on advances in commercially available technologies.
The knowledge and insights these speakers share will empower attendees with new skills and improved information, facilitating the adoption of PA practices across agricultural industries.
Who will be attending?
The symposium attracts a diverse audience comprising of growers, researchers, advisors, commercial suppliers, research funding body personnel, and tertiary students. While the focus is primarily on the use of PA in broadacre cropping, the event aims to foster knowledge exchange and encourage the adoption of PA across different farming enterprises.

Industry-led round table - A road map toward interoperability | Tuesday 5 September | 1:45pm-3:45pm
Join an expert panel in this industry roundtable to workshop solutions for interoperability and data compatibility in precision agriculture.
In the early 2000s, ISOBUS11783 was introduced as a serial control and communications data network for agricultural machinery, but 20 years on, compatability remains a barrier affecting farmer adoption.
With many exciting new developments for technology application, the industry is well placed to consider a new strategy to overcome such barriers to adoption of PA technologies.
This roundtable will bring together machinery dealers, software providers, researchers, PA experts, and farmers to consider solutions in an Australian and international context. The workshop will facilitate expert discussion across the industry to define the problem and begin an industry roadmap to improve interoperability and reliability of technology-based applications in agriculture. Be part of the discussion and the solution for precision agriculture in Australia.
The workshop will be held after the symposium concludes on day two. Registrations are essential.
Facilitated by: Julia Easton (CCDM); Bindi Isbister (DPIRD); & Michelle Condy (GGA)
Funded by: DJTSI Science Agribusiness Connect program
To attend just the round table, you can register here.
